Lucknow: The efforts of the Yogi government, which is taking important steps for the conservation and cleaning of the Ganga river in Uttar Pradesh, have got another success. 5 projects worth Rs 73.39 crore have been approved for Uttar Pradesh in the 56th Executive Committee meeting of the National Mission for Clean Ganga. The objective of these projects is to take steps for the conservation and cleaning of the Ganga river. These projects will play an important role in reducing the pollution of the Ganga river and improving its eco-system.
Establishment of Secretariat of Smart Laboratory for Clean River Project in Varanasi
Under the institutional framework between Namami Gange and IIT BHU, the Secretariat of Smart Laboratory for Clean River Project will be established in Varanasi. This project is an ambitious and important initiative for the rejuvenation of small rivers in India. The objective of such a project is to bring the rivers back to their natural form, protect water resources and restore environmental balance. It includes activities like improving water quality, sustainable methods of water management and involvement of local communities using global expertise and sustainable practices.
Efforts to stop pollution of Kali River, a tributary of Ganga
At the same time, an important environmental project has been approved in Gulavathi of Bulandshahr district of Uttar Pradesh, which aims to stop pollution of Eastern Kali River, a tributary of Ganga. Under this project, along with interception and diversion, a sewage treatment plant (STP) of 10 MLD (million liters per day) capacity will also be constructed. The total estimated cost of the project is Rs 50.98 crore, which also includes maintenance and management for the next 15 years. As per the project timeline, the state government has to provide the required land for the project within the next 4 months.
Approval of Faecal Sludge Management Project in Dalmou, Raebareli
Under the Namami Gange programme, Faecal Sludge Management Project has been approved to reduce pollution of River Ganga at Dalmou in Raebareli. Under this project, a 15 kW solar power plant will also be set up along with a plant of 8 KLD capacity. The project is based on DBOT model, with a total cost of Rs 4.40 crore. The project also includes a period of up to five years for its maintenance and management. This initiative has been taken with the aim of reducing pollution of River Ganga and providing sanitation services to the local community.
Establishment of Arth Ganga Center at Chheoki Railway Station
The project of establishment of Arth Ganga Center and branding of the station at Chheoki Railway Station in Prayagraj has been approved. The total cost of this project will be Rs 1.80 crore, out of which Rs 68.70 lakh will be spent for its maintenance and management for the next five years. It was also suggested in the meeting that Arth Ganga centers should be built in every state of the Ganga basin. The main objective of this Arth Ganga Center is to spread awareness among the people about Ganga and environment during the Maha Kumbh Mela and after that.
Approval given to rejuvenate lower order streams and tributaries
At the same time, the plan for rejuvenation of lower order streams and tributaries in the Upper Gomti River Basin through nature-based solutions by Baba Saheb Bhimrao Ambedkar Central University, Lucknow was also approved. The estimated cost of this project is Rs 81.09 lakh. This project is very important, because small rivers and streams are important for the water flow and ecosystem of big rivers.
The meeting was chaired by Rajiv Kumar Mittal, Director General of National Mission for Clean Ganga. Deputy Director General of NMCG Nalin Srivastava, ED (Project) Brijendra Swaroop, ED (Technical) Anil Kumar Saxena, ED (Admin) SP Vashisht, ED (Finance) Bhaskar Dasgupta and Joint Secretary and Financial Advisor Richa Mishra of Water Resources Department, River Development and Ganga Conservation, Jal Shakti Ministry and other senior officials were also present in the meeting.
